An old saying we hike by

According to all the laws of aerodynamics, the bee cannot fly. Its body weight isn't in the right proportion to its wingspan. But ignoring these laws, the bee flies anyway.

We build hiking gear the same way. The usual rule is that gear gets designed one piece at a time. We ignored it. Hexis is one system: your poles click onto your pack, the tent folds into its own slot, and the hood fits over your helmet. Less fumbling, more walking.

The system

How it fits

On the trail, every stop to dig through your pack costs time and warmth. Most gear is designed one piece at a time. We design ours together, so each piece makes the others easier to use.

01

Poles with the Trail Pack

Fold them, and they click onto magnets on your shoulder straps. No need to take the pack off.

02

Fit Tent with the Trail Pack

Folds to the exact shape of a slot in the bottom of the pack.

03

Core Jacket with the Trail Helmet

The removable hood is cut to go over the helmet.

04

Trail Pants with boots and shoes

The cuffs seal over the top so grit and snow stay out.

05

Trail Light with the Trail Helmet

Snaps onto a magnetic mount on the front of the helmet.

06

Fit Tent with everything

Inside, there's a set spot for your jacket, boots, helmet and pack.

The gear

The first line

Eight pieces, each fine on its own and better together. You choose the insulation, sizes and add-ons you'll actually use.

HX01

Core Jacket

Waterproof, with four insulation levels and a removable hood that fits over a helmet.

HX02

Trail Pack

From a day pack to a multi-day pack, with a tent slot in the base.

HX03

Trail Pants

Stretchy and water-resistant, with your choice of insulation.

HX04

Trail Boots

A 3-season boot and a winter boot that takes crampons. Both tighten with a dial.

HX05

Trail Hat

A simple warm hat that packs small and sits under the hood.

HX06

Trail Shoes

Waterproof or breathable, with the same fit and dial as the boots.

HX07

Trail Helmet

For climbing and scrambling, with a one-hand dial and a magnetic light mount.

HX08

Fit Tent

Freestanding, for one or two people, in 3-season and 4-season versions.

Plus folding poles in aluminium or carbon, and the Trail Light for your helmet. Retractable spikes are an option on boots and shoes.

What Hexis means

Hexis

ἕξις, Ancient Greek noun · from ékhein, "to have, to hold"

A settled state you build by doing.

Hexis literally means "having" or "holding": the condition you're in. Aristotle used it for qualities you can't buy or be born with, only build through practice. You get brave by doing brave things.

That's the idea behind the brand. You get ready for the mountain by going to the mountain, with gear that's built to keep up.

Why we're building it

We're two friends who hike a lot, and we kept running into the same small problems. Poles with nowhere to go. A hood that won't close over a helmet. A tent that never fits back in the pack.

None of it is a big deal on its own. Together, it's a lot of stopping, unpacking and fiddling. So we're designing gear where every piece has a place, starting with the jacket. Join the waitlist and you'll see how it goes.
